Saudi Arabian resorts receive first DarkSky certifications

Two resorts in Saudi Arabia have become the first to receive certification from DarkSky International under its new ‘Approved Lodgings & Resorts’ program. The certification aims to combat light pollution by promoting responsible outdoor lighting that is described as ‘beautiful, healthy and functional’.

Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve located near the Red Sea, was recognized for its panoramic views and its resident astronomy expert who leads guided stargazing tours. The Desert Rock Resort, situated in the Hijaz Mountains, received the accolade for its exceptional night sky quality, careful outdoor lighting practices, and educational outreach programs.
