Houthi rebels claim attack on Aramco facility in Riyadh

Tensions between Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia have escalated significantly. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed the group launched ballistic missiles and drones at an Aramco facility in Riyadh, reporting that the operation caused fires. This attack was described by the Houthis as a response to approximately 60 air strikes targeting Sanaa and other Yemeni provinces over a 24-hour period.

The Saudi-led coalition has dismissed these claims as “misleading,” with spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki suggesting the Houthis are attempting to create a “imaginary victory” to distract from their own heavy losses on the Taiz front.

Simultaneously, the Yemeni government has intensified its own military operations. The Presidential Leadership Council, led by Rashad al-Alimi, announced a major offensive to reclaim territory. Government forces reported conducting 257 operations against Houthi positions, claiming to have neutralized at least 700 Houthi fighters.

In the Taiz governorate, the humanitarian situation is deteriorating. Reports indicate Houthi violence has included indiscriminate shelling, targeted killings, and civilian displacement. Human rights organizations have noted that 26 health facilities in the region have become non-operational due to direct targeting and supply blockages.
