Saudi Aramco considers $100 billion standalone gas unit

Saudi Aramco is considering a major restructuring to create a standalone natural gas division, which could be valued at more than $100 billion. The company has reportedly engaged investment bank Evercore to advise on the move, while Boston Consulting Group has provided guidance on the initiative, known as ‘Project Gamma’.

The creation of this independent unit is intended to unlock value and could pave the way for a future initial public offering (IPO) or a minority stake sale. This strategic shift would allow Aramco to develop domestic gas resources more effectively and build an international liquefied natural gas (LNG) portfolio.

This move aligns with a broader trend among Gulf energy companies to offer external investors stakes in specific business segments while maintaining operational control. In tandem with this restructuring, Aramco is also exploring the sale of up to $35 billion in assets, including real estate and interests in oil export terminals, to fund government projects and support dividend payments.
