Saudi camels lead Al-Laqaya category at Crown Prince Camel Festival

Saudi camels dominated the opening day of the ‘Al-Laqaya’ category at the eighth Crown Prince Camel Festival held at the historic Taif Camel Racing Track. Out of 14 rounds held on the fourth day of the festival, Saudi camels secured first place in eight rounds. The competition featured 531 camels, with total prizes for this category amounting to 10.85 million Saudi riyals.

Other participating nations also saw success: Qatari camels took the lead in three rounds, earning second place in the overall opening day standings. Camels from Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait each secured one first-place finish. Notable performances included the camel ‘Fay’, owned by Qatari Mohammed Bousba’a, which led the ‘Bakkar – General’ round, and the camel ‘Al-Jathab’, owned by Kuwaiti Hadi Al-Ajmi, which recorded the best time in the ‘Qa’dan General’ round.

The Al-Laqaya category involves 64 rounds covering a total distance of 256 kilometers. The festival, organized by the Saudi Camel Federation under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, features total prizes exceeding 50 million riyals. The event aims to preserve traditional heritage and support the economic and tourism goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
