Saudi Arabia issues air raid alerts in Riyadh amid Houthi threats FAST-MOVING

Saudi Arabia issued emergency air raid alerts across several cities, including Riyadh, Al-Kharj, Jeddah, and Taif, following reports of a hostile aerial threat. Residents in Riyadh reported hearing explosions shortly after receiving mobile warnings early Saturday morning. This marks the first time the capital has been directly affected by such alerts since the escalation of the conflict in Yemen in July.

The alerts follow a series of attacks attributed to the Iran-backed Houthi movement. Previously, debris from an intercepted Houthi drone in Taif resulted in one death and two injuries. The Houthis have also intensified their maritime blockade, targeting Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait. Consequently, Saudi oil exports through this vital waterway have seen a decline since July.

The UN Security Council has condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi civilian and energy infrastructure, warning that the military escalation risks expanding the conflict and threatening international maritime security. Meanwhile, renewed fighting within Yemen has displaced more than 112,000 people.
