Saudi-French program to boost water resilience in Taiz

Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, oversaw the signing of an agreement to implement a project aimed at strengthening climate-resilient urban water systems in Taiz. The initiative is part of a joint Saudi-French cooperation program.

The project is being executed through a partnership between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the Sela Foundation for Development, and the Crisis and Support Centre of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The total value of the integrated Saudi and French projects is 7.4 million Saudi riyals, with 3.5 million riyals allocated to the Saudi component.

The program is expected to directly benefit over 139,000 people and indirectly benefit 242,000 residents in the Taiz governorate. The project aims to increase water production, reduce loss, and improve the operational capacity of the local water institution to combat water scarcity, which currently affects over 600,000 citizens in the region.
