Saudi Ministry of Commerce warns businesses against data leaks on unofficial platforms

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has issued a warning to commercial entities, including companies and establishments, against sharing or uploading commercial, personal, or financial data to unofficial electronic platforms. These fraudulent sites often claim to provide digital identity preservation services but lack legal standing, making it impossible to verify their data collection purposes or security mechanisms.

The Ministry emphasized that sensitive information—such as commercial registrations, tax numbers, national addresses, contact details, bank accounts, IBANs, and supporting documents—should not be provided to untrusted parties. It noted a rise in fake platforms using names or logos that falsely imply government affiliation to deceive users into centralizing their data in one location.

To mitigate risks of data misuse, the Ministry urged businesses and individuals to use only official government channels and to verify the identity and legal basis of any entity requesting information. Furthermore, the Ministry warned against sharing passwords, verification codes, or login credentials for government or banking accounts.
