Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Housing reports record Hajj service performance
The Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Housing, through the Holy City Authority, announced that its operational plan for the 1447 AH Hajj season succeeded on multiple fronts. More than 22,000 municipal staff and 21,000 volunteers worked around the clock, supported by over 3,000 pieces of equipment and 88,000 cleaning units that handled waste collection and processing.
During the pilgrimage, over 250,000 tonnes of waste were removed from Mecca and more than 16,000 tonnes from the other holy sites, averaging more than 6,000 tonnes per day in Mecca and 200 tonnes per day elsewhere. Food‑safety teams conducted 38,000 inspections of kitchens and other facilities, testing over 5,000 food samples, and reported zero cases of food poisoning. Volunteers assisted with crowd guidance, water and umbrella distribution, and public‑awareness activities, contributing to the smooth and safe completion of the Hajj rites.
