Saudi Red Sea Gateway launches $170 million Chittagong container terminal in Bangladesh

Red Sea Gateway International (RSGTI), a Saudi port‑operating company, officially opened a new container terminal at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh, investing US$170 million. The 22‑year concession, signed in 2023, expands the terminal’s capacity from about 250,000 TEU to 600,000 TEU and adds four modern ship‑to‑shore cranes, a 580‑metre berth and over 200,000 m² of storage space.

The project marks Bangladesh’s first international port‑management concession and illustrates Saudi Arabia’s push to export logistics expertise under Vision 2030. RSGTI’s chief executive, Lars Vanng Christensen, said the terminal “demonstrates Saudi capability to develop world‑class port infrastructure and supports trade flows through a key South‑Asian gateway.” The company also announced plans to consider up to US$1 billion of additional investment in Bangladesh’s maritime sector.
