Saudi-Yemen conflict intensifies amid airstrikes and French military aid
Tensions have escalated in the Middle East as Saudi Arabian airstrikes target residential areas and infrastructure in Yemen. Recent raids have struck the city of Saada and various villages in the Qatabir district. Reports indicate that over 20 airstrikes were conducted within a 24-hour period, targeting provinces including Taiz, Al-Jawf, Marib, Dhamar, and Saada. One strike on a commercial market in the Taiz region reportedly resulted in 50 civilian casualties.
In response to the ongoing military actions, authorities in Sanaa have adopted an “escalation against escalation” policy, threatening direct retaliation against targets in Riyadh.
Amidst the conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron has moved to provide defensive military support to Saudi Arabia. This assistance, which includes radar and defense systems, aims to protect Saudi oil exports and maritime security in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks. This move is viewed as a strategic effort to maintain regional stability and secure energy corridors following shifts in United States foreign policy regarding the Gulf monarchy.
