Grey-Bruce region unemployment rate falls to 5 per cent

The unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic region, which includes Grey and Bruce counties, fell to 5 per cent in July. According to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, this rate is the second lowest in Ontario, compared to a provincial unemployment rate of 7.1 per cent.

While the unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points, total employment in the region saw a slight decline of 200 jobs, bringing the total to 168,000. This was driven by a gain of 1,400 full-time positions being offset by a loss of 1,600 part-time positions.

Sector-specific data shows growth in services-producing industries, particularly in public administration, information, culture and recreation, and professional services. Conversely, the goods-producing sector experienced a decrease of 1,200 jobs.
