Sava Technologies secures €32 million for glucose sensor development
London-based medical technology startup Sava Technologies has successfully completed a €32.08 million Series B financing round. The funding round was led by Ascensia Diabetes Care, which also entered into a strategic partnership with Sava to commercialize and distribute its wearable microsensor technology, initially focusing on the European market.
Sava Technologies, founded in 2019 by Renato Circi and Rafaël Michali at Imperial College London, is developing a minimally invasive continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system. The technology utilizes microsensors with measuring elements approximately ten times shorter than current market standards, aiming to significantly reduce tissue trauma during insertion.
The company plans to launch a pivotal clinical study in 2026 to support non-adjunctive use. This would allow patients to make direct therapeutic decisions, such as insulin dosing, based on sensor data without needing routine confirmation through conventional blood glucose testing. Sava is targeting CE approval and a commercial launch within 18 to 24 months.
