Savannah DeMelo sues doctors over missed heart condition diagnosis

Racing Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo has filed a lawsuit against University of Louisville Health and two doctors, Dr. Jennifer Daily and Dr. Sarabjeet Suri, alleging improper care and a missed diagnosis.

DeMelo, a 28-year-old player for the U.S. Women’s National Team, confirmed she suffered a cardiac arrest due to an undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia during a game one year ago. The lawsuit claims the medical providers failed to acknowledge or treat her heart condition despite her presenting telltale symptoms. Six months prior to her on-field collapse, DeMelo was hospitalized for similar issues but was reportedly told she had hyperthyroidism.

DeMelo is seeking compensation for medical costs and lost income, citing a ‘permanent impairment in her power to labor and earn money.’ She has not played for Racing Louisville since the incident.
