Savannah Guthrie Leaves 'Today' to Host New Wordle Game Show

NBC journalist Savannah Guthrie announced she will be absent from the "Today" show for several weeks to film the upcoming Wordle game show, which she will host. During the July 16 broadcast she told co‑hosts, "I'm headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks… we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it." The series is executive‑produced by Jimmy Fallon and is expected to premiere early next year.

The filming schedule had been delayed while Guthrie dealt with the ongoing disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, in Tucson, Arizona. With the production now underway, Guthrie said the hiatus is a temporary career opportunity and she will return to the anchor desk after the season is completed.
