Savannah police hunt suspect for alleged $90,000 BMW theft

Police in Savannah, Georgia, are searching for a Black man, estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old, accused of stealing a $90,000 BMW X5 from the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Investigators say the suspect allegedly posed as a professional basketball player, claiming to have multiple vehicles parked at the hotel to convince valet staff to hand over the SUV.

The gray 2026 BMW actually belonged to a local dealership and had been provided as a loaner to a hotel guest. Before taking the BMW, the suspect was reportedly seen in the hotel lobby removing items from a white 2025 Audi A5, which was later found unlocked in the parking garage and had been reported stolen.

Authorities have linked the suspect to another valet theft involving a Toyota C-HR at a Fairfield Inn on August 5. The dealership later tracked the stolen BMW to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Surveillance images have been released as police seek public assistance in identifying the suspect.
