Savannah police investigate theft of $90K BMW from hotel valet

Authorities in Savannah, Georgia, are investigating the theft of a $90,000 BMW X5 from the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Police report that on August 14, a man allegedly posed as a professional basketball player to deceive valet staff. The suspect reportedly presented a valet ticket for the luxury SUV and claimed to have multiple vehicles parked at the hotel before driving away around 12:30 a.m.

The stolen BMW was a loaner vehicle provided to a hotel guest. Investigators have tracked the vehicle to the 2100 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and have entered it into stolen-vehicle databases.

Surveillance footage also showed the suspect interacting with a white Audi A5, which was reported stolen the day before the BMW theft. Detectives believe the suspect may be linked to a similar vehicle theft at a Fairfield Inn in Savannah on August 5. The Savannah Police Department is seeking public assistance to identify the suspect, described as a Black man between 20 and 30 years old.
