Savannah Region: Over 90% of displaced persons return home

Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka announced that over 90 per cent of the more than 40,000 people displaced by communal violence in the Savannah Region have returned to their homes within three months.

The conflict had previously forced residents to flee to the streets or across borders into Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso. To manage the crisis, the government implemented a combination of curfews, security operations, and structured mediation.

A dedicated committee was established to mediate between the warring parties, who share deep historical and family ties. To prevent future escalations, a standing committee has been created to maintain ongoing dialogue between the affected communities.
