Save Dallas City Hall Coalition launches petition drive
The Save Dallas City Hall Coalition has officially submitted a notice of intent to the Dallas City Secretary to launch a petition drive. The goal is to place a city charter amendment on the May 2027 ballot, which would allow voters to decide whether the City of Dallas must continue to maintain its principal municipal government operations at the current Dallas City Hall, a building designed by architect I. M. Pei.
The coalition aims to collect approximately 20,000 signatures from registered Dallas voters. Supporters of the initiative include former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, Liane Pei, current Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia, and former Dallas City Council members Veletta Forsythe-Lill and Erik Wilson.
Coalition attorney Chris Bowers stated that the movement is driven by a desire to move away from “backroom deals and misplaced priorities,” suggesting that city focus should shift toward essential services such as police, fire, infrastructure, and economic opportunity. Petition-signing events are scheduled to begin immediately throughout the city.
