Save Europe Act activists hold demonstrations in Italy and France
Activists associated with the Save Europe Act, an initiative promoting remigration, have conducted demonstrations in Bruneck, Italy, and Paris, France.
In Bruneck, activists collected signatures in the city center. A local mother, whose husband is Black, expressed distress in an open letter after an encounter with activists, questioning if her husband would also be subject to deportation. The European Commission previously rejected the registration of the Save Europe Act as a European Citizens' Initiative, stating it violates fundamental EU values and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
In Paris, activists from Objectif Remigration and the Save Europe Act displayed a large banner near the Eiffel Tower using torches and smoke bombs. The action followed a ban on planned demonstrations and colloquiums by authorities citing public order risks. Austrian activist Martin Sellner, a co-initiator of the initiative, was reportedly denied entry at Beauvais-Tillé airport. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has condemned the term remigration as racist.
