Save Mart's Lucky Supermarket in San Francisco to Close

The Lucky supermarket on Fulton Street in San Francisco's North of the Panhandle neighborhood will close on September 11, ending a decades‑long presence in the area. Save Mart, the parent company, says the store has been unprofitable for years and cites long‑term financial underperformance as the reason for the shutdown. District 6 Supervisor Stephen Sherrill noted that persistent retail theft also contributed to the decision and warned that the loss will affect 48 workers and many local families, seniors and students who rely on the store for groceries.

Save Mart is seeking a sub‑tenant to take over the lease, but neighbors fear the space could remain vacant, creating a gap in access to fresh, affordable food for the community.
