Savencia to close Ilolay dairy plant in El Trébol

Savencia Fromage & Dairy has announced the closure of its cheese production plant in El Trébol, Argentina, effective March 31, 2027. The facility, which the French company acquired in 2023 through its purchase of the Ilolay brand, currently processes approximately 130,000 liters of milk daily to produce soft cheeses such as gouda and tybo.

The decision places 54 jobs at risk. Savencia has reportedly offered employees several options upon the cessation of activities, including voluntary retirement, severance packages, or transfers to other company production units in Rafaela and Las Parejas.

The announcement comes amid broader challenges in the regional dairy sector; reports indicate that nearly 300 dairy farms (tambos) have closed in the province over the last three years.
