Savona City Council Approves Pro-Cuba Resolution

The municipal council of Savona in Italy's Liguria region voted to adopt a resolution supporting Cuba and condemning the United States embargo. The motion, promoted by the National Association of ItalyCuba Friendship (Anaic), urges Italy to demand that Washington lift the restrictive measures against the island, stating that "the restrictive measures against the Republic of Cuba must be lifted."

Council members, including mayor Marco Russo and local leaders such as Marco Papacci of Anaic, Roberto Casella, Franco Zunino, Marco Ravera and Alessandra Gemelli, highlighted recent U.S. tariff actions and humanitarian impacts. The Savona resolution joins a broader wave of similar motions adopted in other Italian cities, including Rome, Genoa and Florence, calling for an end to the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba.
