Savona hospital merges wards due to nursing shortage

A shortage of nursing staff at San Paolo Hospital in Savona has forced the local health authority (Asl) to reorganize hospital wards. These measures, which are expected to continue through September and potentially into October, involve merging departments to ensure basic coverage of shifts and patient care.

As part of the reorganization, the hand surgery department is being merged with urology. This change reduces the hand surgery unit to only four emergency beds, while scheduled activities and outpatient procedures are being relocated to external facilities in Cairo and Albenga. Additionally, long-term care spaces will be shared with the Medicine II department. The health authority has described these changes as a temporary measure to maintain essential assistance levels.
