Savona police intercept stolen Toyota Rav4 with counterfeit documents

Police in Savona intercepted a stolen Toyota Rav4 traveling at high speeds on the A10 motorway toward the state border. The vehicle, which had been stolen a few days prior in the province of Reggio Emilia, featured highly sophisticated forgeries.

Authorities from the Genova Sampierdarena and Bologna highway police discovered that the license plate and registration documents were counterfeit. The perpetrators had meticulously tampered with the vehicle by removing the original bodywork containing the chassis number and replacing it with a metal plate bearing a different identification number.

Upon stopping the driver, an Italian citizen of foreign origin, police also found a boarding pass for a trip from the port of Barcelona to Morocco associated with the vehicle. Following consultation with the Savona Prosecutor's Office, the driver was arrested and transferred to Marassi prison.
