Savur undergoes aesthetic and environmental renovations in Mardin

The Mardin Metropolitan Municipality has completed a series of environmental and aesthetic renovation projects in the Savur district. Directed by Mardin Governor and Deputy Mayor Tuncay Akkoyun, the initiative aims to enhance local living standards and boost tourism potential by highlighting the area's historical and cultural heritage.

Key improvements include the installation of an energy-efficient lighting system for Savur Castle to improve nighttime visibility, the placement of decorative lighting poles, and the renewal of central medians. To promote sustainability, the municipality implemented dry landscaping and greenery projects designed to conserve water while providing a modern aesthetic.

As part of the cultural initiatives, a monument has been erected in honor of Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar. The monument aims to celebrate the achievements of the scientist, who was born in the district, and serve as an inspiration to younger generations. Halef Eraslan, Head of the Environmental Protection and Control Department, stated that the works focus on preserving the historical texture of Savur while modernizing its appearance.
