Savuto River bridge reopens after 20-year closure

The new bridge over the Savuto River on the SP 163/1 has officially reopened to traffic, restoring a vital connection between the Catanzaro and Cosenza provinces. The 170-meter viaduct serves as a strategic link between the coastal areas and the hinterland, specifically connecting the municipalities of Nocera Terinese, Amantea, and Cleto.

The reopening follows a twenty-year hiatus caused by the structural failure of the previous bridge, which partially collapsed in 2006 and fell entirely in 2008. The project was completed with a total investment of approximately 7 million euros, supported by funding from the Province of Catanzaro, the Calabria Region, and the national ministry.

Local officials, including Catanzaro Provincial President Amedeo Mormile and Calabria Regional Vice President Filippo Mancuso, noted that the project addresses a long-standing infrastructure need and marks a shift from unfinished works to completed, functional assets for the community.
