Sawan 2026 begins July 30 and ends Aug 28 with four Monday fasts
The Hindu month of Sawan in 2026 will start on Thursday, July 30 and conclude on Friday, August 28 with the Shravan Purnima. During the month, devotees observe four Monday fasts on August 3, 10, 17 and 24, each considered especially auspicious for Shiva worship.
In addition to the Monday fasts, the month features four Mangal Gauri fasts on Tuesdays—August 4, 11, 18 and 25—dedicated to the goddess Parvati. Traditional advice for the period recommends bringing certain auspicious items into the home before Sawan, such as a silver Nandi statue, a glass Shiva lingam, rudraksha beads, a copper kalash, a conch shell and bel‑leaf plants, believed to invite the blessings of Shiva and the goddess Lakshmi.
These dates and customs are widely observed across India, with pilgrimages to sites like Haridwar and communal rituals at local temples throughout the month.
