Sawan Barwal wins Asian Games marathon silver

Sawan Barwal won the silver medal in the men's marathon at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. His performance, clocking a time of 2:11:37, ended a 44-year medal drought for India in this specific event, with the last medal being won in 1982.

Barwal, who serves in the Indian Army, also set a new national record and achieved a personal best during the race. The gold medal was awarded to Japan's Ichitaka Yamashita, while China's Peiyu Feng took the bronze.

Following his victory, Barwal expressed his intention to focus on next year's World Championships before aiming for a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
