Sawan Rudrabhishek Ritual Guidelines Emphasize Proper Method and Use of Shringi

During the monsoon month of Sawan, devotees perform the Rudrabhishek—a water, milk, and holy substance offering to Lord Shiva—both in temples and at home. Practitioners are advised to thoroughly clean the house, place the Shiva lingam facing north, and sit with the face turned east. Couples are encouraged to take the vow together before the ceremony.

A key element is the use of a shringi, a horn‑shaped vessel traditionally made of silver, copper or bronze, which ensures a continuous flow of water onto the lingam. The uninterrupted stream is considered essential for the ritual’s efficacy. If a shringi is unavailable, a copper pot may be used provided the water stream does not break.
