Sawang Janpram sets discus world record at age 106
Sawang Janpram, a 106-year-old Thai athlete, set a new world record in the men’s 105+ age category discus throw at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Competing with a 1kg discus, Janpram achieved a distance of 7.59 meters, surpassing the previous record by nine centimeters. Although he was the sole competitor in his specific age bracket, he approached the event with high seriousness, completing six attempts to ensure his best possible performance despite temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius.
Janpram, who only began training seriously at age 80, was coached by his 74-year-old daughter, Siripan. He is scheduled to compete in the men’s 85+ javelin throw at the championships.
