Sławomir Mentzen rejects Morawiecki’s parental salary proposal

Sławomir Mentzen, leader of the Konfederacja party, has criticized a new demographic proposal by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The proposal, presented by the Rozwój Plus association, suggests introducing a ‘parental salary’ for the 2027 parliamentary elections. This benefit would provide parents of children up to three years old with a monthly payment equal to the net minimum wage, currently approximately 3,600 PLN, while maintaining the existing 800 plus program for older children.

Mentzen argued that previous social programs, such as 500 plus and 800 plus, failed to improve Poland's declining fertility rates despite hundreds of billions of zlotys in spending. He dismissed the new proposal as an ineffective attempt to solve demographic issues solely through increased social spending. Mentzen also rejected potential cooperation with Morawiecki, stating that Konfederacja will not support further increases in social expenditures which he characterizes as a waste of public funds.
