Saxony and Arizona agree to microelectronics cooperation

The German state of Saxony and the U.S. state of Arizona have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the microelectronics sector. Announced during the Semicon West trade fair in San Francisco, the partnership aims to build closer connections between companies, research institutions, and talent pools in both regions.

Both locations are major global semiconductor hubs. Saxony serves as a primary microelectronics center in Europe, while Arizona, often referred to as the ‘Silicon Desert,’ has attracted over $314 billion in semiconductor industry investments since 2020, supported by the U.S. CHIPS Act. The cooperation is intended to provide Saxon companies better access to the U.S. market and offer Arizona firms direct entry into the European microelectronics ecosystem.

Separately, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported third-quarter net profits of NT$763.06 billion, a 68.7% increase year-over-year. Despite these strong results and a positive revenue forecast for the fourth quarter, TSMC's stock faced downward pressure amid broader market concerns regarding interest rates and the financing of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
