Dieter Hallervorden campaigns against AfD ahead of Sachsen-Anhalt state election

Veteran actor and cabaret artist Dieter Hallervorden, aged 90, has launched a public campaign warning that the far‑right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) could win an absolute majority in the upcoming Sachsen‑Anhalt state election if the SPD, Greens and FDP fail to pass the five‑percent hurdle. He argues that an AfD‑led government would impose ideological conformity on arts funding, effectively censoring cultural expression.

Hallervorden has teamed with fellow artists such as Axel Prahl and Oliver Kalkofe and is touring the state with CDU Minister‑President Sven Schulze to urge voters to support the CDU, SPD, FDP, Greens or The Left. The campaign stresses the importance of a vibrant democracy, artistic freedom and social cohesion, positioning the AfD’s cultural agenda as a threat to those values.
