Sachsen-Anhalt politicians clash over AfD candidate comparison to Hermann Göring

Political tensions have escalated in Sachsen-Anhalt following comments by Green Party parliamentary group leader Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz. In an Instagram video, Sziborra-Seidlitz compared AfD politician Tobias Rausch to Nazi leader Hermann Göring, stating that if Rausch were elected Landtag President, there would be “the first far-right Landtag President since Hermann Göring.”

Tobias Rausch, the AfD's candidate for the presidency of the state parliament, could secure the position because the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has indicated it will vote for the AfD's nominee, potentially providing the necessary majority.

The comparison has drawn criticism from other political figures. Claudia Wittig of the BSW argued that using National Socialist crimes as “rhetorical ammunition” is dangerous and that such comparisons blur historical dimensions. Sziborra-Seidlitz has called for a demonstration at Magdeburg Domplatz to protest against the potential election of a far-right president.
