Sachsen-Anhalt: Lawyers release guide to counter AfD policies
A group of lawyers has released a practical legal guide titled ‘Recht Solidarisch – Juristische Orientierungen für die Zivilgesellschaft’ to assist individuals with migration backgrounds in Sachsen-Anhalt. The initiative aims to provide legal assessments and case studies to help citizens defend themselves against potential discrimination or unlawful decisions by a new state government.
The project is supported by several organizations, including the Republican Lawyers' Association (RAV), the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the Die Linke parliamentary group, and the Equal Rights Beyond Borders association. The guide encourages legal action and formal objections against proposed policies, such as restricting ‘baby welcome money’ to German citizens only, which the organizers argue may not be legally justifiable based on nationality alone.
Other areas of focus include potential changes to asylum seeker housing and access to regular schooling. The legal experts note that some objectives outlined in the AfD's election program for Sachsen-Anhalt may fall outside the legislative jurisdiction of individual federal states.
