Saxony-Anhalt pilgrimage numbers rise along Way of St. James

Participation in the Saturday pilgrimage program along the Way of St. James in Saxony-Anhalt is increasing. According to the St. Jakobus-Gesellschaft, the number of participants has risen by 10 to 15 percent since the program began in 2010.

The next scheduled stage of the pilgrimage will take place on August 15, covering approximately 20 kilometers from Hettstedt to Eisleben. Participants typically meet at the Hettstedt station to walk the route, which many use as an opportunity to find distance from daily life and gain new perspectives.

Sebastian Bartsch, president of the St. Jakobus-Gesellschaft, expressed hopes for further growth. Future goals include increasing the number of overnight accommodations for pilgrims, ensuring that 32 churches along the route can be opened upon request, and establishing cultural offerings such as concerts and exhibitions along the path.
