Saxony-Anhalt reports industrial energy decline and remote work trends
Data from the Statistical Office of Saxony-Anhalt reveals shifts in both industrial energy use and labor patterns for 2025. Industrial electricity consumption in the region fell by 0.6 percent compared to 2024, totaling 9,680 million kilowatt-hours. Electricity accounted for 15.0 percent of total industrial energy consumption, following natural gas at 39.4 percent.
Regarding labor, approximately 107,000 employees in Saxony-Anhalt—representing 12.3 percent of the 868,000 total employees—worked from home at least part-time in 2025. This is an increase from 10.7 percent in 2024 and 10.5 percent in 2021, though it remains relatively stable compared to recent years. Women utilized remote work more frequently than men, with 14.2 percent (60,000 people) working from home compared to 10.6 percent (47,000 people) for men.
The frequency of remote work has also shifted. While 68.2 percent of home office workers in 2021 spent at least half of their working days at home, by 2025, 53.2 percent of remote workers reported spending less than half of their workdays at home, often working from home only one or two days per week.
