Saxony Mineral Fair Draws International Collectors to Knappenrode

The 21st Saxony Mineral Fair took place on Sunday, 16 August, at the Energiefabrik Knappenrode in Ostsachsen. Organized by the Friends for Mineralogy and Geology (VFMG) district group, the event featured more than 40 traders and collectors from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Pakistan and China showcasing crystals, gemstones, fossils and minerals. The fair highlighted the VFMG‑selected "Mineral of the Year 2026," gypsum, and displayed its crystalline forms in a special exhibit. Visitors celebrated the milestone of the 1,000th guest, who received a prize from the Ostsachsen Mineral Association, and children enjoyed activities such as a gold‑panning workshop.
