Saxony proposes stricter measures against juvenile crime

Saxony's Justice Minister, Constanze Geiert (CDU), has introduced a resolution to tighten measures against juvenile crime, specifically targeting politically motivated violence by young adults. The proposal, which is expected to be submitted to the Bundesrat next week, seeks to restrict the application of more lenient juvenile criminal law for young adults aged 18 to 20 in serious cases.

According to police crime statistics cited by the minister, 2,066 children and youths were recorded as suspects in violent crimes in 2025. Within the 18 to 20 age group, police registered 890 suspects. Geiert stated that the high level of youth violence significantly impacts public safety and emphasized the need to stop criminal careers early to protect victims.
