Sayreville police shoot man following knife confrontation
Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera is requesting surveillance video following a police shooting in Sayreville, New Jersey. The incident occurred early Saturday on Kendall Drive after police responded to reports of a man menacing people in a neighborhood and a vehicle.
According to Estremera, the suspect refused orders to drop a knife and instead walked toward an officer, prompting the officer to fire. The man was struck, transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment, and subsequently charged. The suspect's identity and specific charges have not been released.
Sayreville Mayor Kennedy O'Brien expressed full confidence in the police department, noting that such incidents are “extremely rare” in the borough.
