Sébastien Delogu faces prison and ineligibility in Marseille trial
French lawmaker Sébastien Delogu, a member of La France Insoumise (LFI), appeared in a Marseille court this Wednesday to face charges related to the theft and dissemination of private documents. The prosecutor has requested a two-year suspended prison sentence and a five-year period of ineligibility for holding office, with immediate execution.
Delogu is accused of receiving stolen goods, violating the secrecy of correspondence, and disclosing personal information. The case stems from the social media publication of private documents belonging to Isidore Aragones, a former official of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (Crif). The documents, which included personal travel plans and private photos, were reportedly stolen from Aragones' business during a labor dispute.
During the proceedings, Delogu exercised his right to silence, offering only apologies for his actions without explaining his motivations. The prosecutor, Audrey Jouaneton, argued that the gravity of the facts justified the request for ineligibility, stating the court should not allow him to continue exercising his mandate.
