Sébastien Lecornu announces 50 million euros for French rural communes

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has announced a new 50 million euro endowment aimed at supporting approximately 9,000 rural communes. Speaking at the Association des maires ruraux de France (AMRF) congress in Auch, Lecornu explained that the funds are intended to help smaller municipalities manage maintenance costs for roads and natural spaces that remain constant despite declining populations.

In addition to the rural endowment, the government is implementing measures to address rising fuel costs in isolated areas. Following the release of strategic fuel stocks, authorities plan to contact 339 identified isolated service stations individually to provide specific solutions. This initiative aims to help these stations pass on expected diesel price reductions of between 12 and 18 cents per liter to consumers.

This new funding follows a planned 150 million euro increase in the global operating grant (DGF) for local authorities scheduled for the 2027 budget.
