Sébastien Lecornu pledges 2027 budget support for French farmers

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has pledged new funding and tax relief for the agricultural sector in the upcoming 2027 national budget. This commitment follows recent emergency aid announced by Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard to assist farmers struggling with severe summer droughts.

In an open letter, Lecornu outlined plans to include support and investment measures in the draft finance bill. Key proposals include funding for water infrastructure, climate change adaptation, and a tax super-deduction mechanism to encourage future agricultural projects. Additionally, the most vulnerable farms may be eligible for reductions in property taxes and social security contributions.

While the government intends to move forward with the newly validated emergency agricultural law, the passage of these budgetary provisions remains uncertain. The administration currently lacks an absolute majority in both the National Assembly and the Senate, meaning legislative consensus will be required to secure the proposed funding.
