SBEE announces electricity outages in eight Benin cities

The Société béninoise d’énergie électrique (SBEE) has announced scheduled electricity outages across eight cities in Benin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The interruptions, which may last up to five hours, are due to maintenance work and activities related to the PORTEO BTP project.

In the northern regions, outages are scheduled for Djougou, Kodowari, Bassila, Manigri, Kplêkêtê, Alédjo, Djougou-centre, and Yaloua from 11:00 to 15:00. Dassa and Glazoué will experience cuts from 10:00 to 15:00. Parakou, including Sirarou, N’Dali, Nikki, and Kalalé, will also be affected during this window. In Kandi, the outage will impact the city center, Sodeco, the hospital area, and several surrounding localities from 10:00 to 15:00. Natitingou, specifically Birni, Chabi Couma, Perma, and Tigninty, will also face interruptions during the same period.

In the southern regions, Ouidah and its surrounding areas, including Adimalè, Sékou, and Pahou, will be without power from 10:00 to 15:00. Lalo and areas near Dogbo, as well as Lokossa and its various neighborhoods, will also experience five-hour interruptions during the same timeframe.

The SBEE stated these interventions are intended to improve network performance and service quality. The company advised the public to remain cautious, noting that electrical installations should be treated as live throughout the duration of the works to prevent accidents.
