Sber acquires New Delhi business centers to expand Indian presence
Sberbank is expanding its physical and economic footprint in India through real estate acquisitions and a shift in trade dynamics. During the Eastern Economic Forum 2026, Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sber, announced the acquisition of two Summit Towers business centers in New Delhi. Expected to be completed by 2028, these towers are intended to serve as an infrastructural foundation for Russian business cooperation in India.
Data from Sber indicates a qualitative shift in Russian imports from India. While trade was previously dominated by pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and food, growth is now being driven by high-tech and industrial sectors, including machinery, electronics, automotive components, and batteries. Additionally, trade involving small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has seen rapid expansion, with payment turnover in the first eight months of 2026 exceeding the total for 2025 by nearly 11 times. Sber also reported significant improvements in bilateral payment efficiency, noting that over 90% of payments from Russia to India are now processed in under 10 minutes.
