SBI DigiTrust to verify stablecoin QR payments for Japanese travelers in South Korea

SBI DigiTrust, a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, has entered into a basic agreement with South Korean payment provider NICE Information & Telecommunication and blockchain infrastructure firm DSRV to conduct joint verification of stablecoin-based remittances and payments between Japan and South Korea.

The project aims to test a system where Japanese travelers can use QR code payments at merchant locations in South Korea. The verification process will examine fund flows from users to merchants, system connectivity, transaction volumes, and operational costs. NICE Information & Telecommunication will focus on integrating with its network of approximately 1.2 million merchants, while DSRV will evaluate the necessary blockchain technical requirements and system configurations.

SBI DigiTrust will utilize its expertise in Japanese regulations and financial systems to refine the payment scheme. The companies intend to complete this verification phase by the end of December 2026. The results will be used to determine the feasibility of commercializing the service, taking into account evolving regulatory environments and policies regarding stablecoins in both nations.
