Allgäu traffic expected to surge due to holidays and Viehscheid

Heavy traffic is expected in the Allgäu region and surrounding areas due to the end of summer holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, combined with the start of the Viehscheid (cattle drive) season.

Traffic experts from ADAC and ACE warn of significant delays on major routes, including the A7, A96, B19, and B12, as well as the Brenner pass, Fernpass, and the Grenztunnel. Peak congestion is anticipated on Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings, and Sunday afternoons as travelers return from Italy and Austria.

In the Upper Allgäu, local congestion is expected earlier due to the opening of several popular Viehscheid events in locations such as Bad Hindelang, Oberstaufen, Balderschwang, and Schöllang. Drivers should also anticipate delays on the B19 and near the B19/A980 junction at Waltenhofen due to both event crowds and ongoing construction affecting rail and bus commuters.
