SBS authorizes BiPay to operate as electronic money issuer in Peru

The Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS) has authorized BiPay Empresa Emisora de Dinero Electrónico S.A. to operate in the Peruvian market. As an electronic money issuer, BiPay will offer a digital wallet designed to facilitate financial services, including transfers, payments, and recharges for both individuals and legal entities.

BiPay is part of the Viettel Group, an international conglomerate with operations in telecommunications, industry, and technology across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In Peru, the group already operates through the telecommunications provider Bitel. The new entity aims to promote financial inclusion by targeting population segments with limited access to the formal financial system through digital channels and national coverage.
