SBT President to address Ratinho after homophobic remarks controversy

Daniela Beyruti, president of the Brazilian broadcaster SBT, has announced intentions to speak with presenter Ratinho (Carlos Massa) following controversial comments made on his program. The controversy arose after Ratinho made remarks regarding the appearance of singer Tiago Piquilo, of the duo Hugo & Thiago, using a term considered homophobic.

In response to the backlash, Beyruti defended the network's commitment to diversity, stating, “For SBT, everyone is accepted and welcome. LGBTs are part of our history, they have always had space on our stages.” She attributed the presenter's behavior to a generational gap, suggesting that while he may not have intended to cause harm, the impact of his words can still be hurtful. Beyruti noted, “I know he doesn't do it out of malice; he comes from a different generation.”

The incident has led to a criminal complaint being filed against the presenter with the Public Ministry of São Paulo. Beyruti confirmed that the network's leadership will address the matter directly with Ratinho to ensure he understands the consequences of such language.
