SBT's The Noite scores audience surge amid Hugo Souza homophobia controversy

The late‑night talk show The Noite, hosted by Danilo Gentili on SBT, recorded a 59% increase in viewership, posting a 2.74‑point average in São Paulo and securing second place in the Ibope ratings, outpacing Record's programs by more than double. In Rio de Janeiro the show also held the vice‑leadership with a 1.87‑point average, maintaining a strong lead over competing channels.

During the same broadcast, Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza made a homophobic remark that sparked criticism from the LGBT advocacy group Fiel LGBT. The group issued a statement condemning the comment as a joke that reinforces discrimination and called for greater awareness among players. Neither Souza nor Corinthians have responded publicly to the backlash.
